Poul Kjaerholm（1929~1980）在丹麥美術工藝學校（The Danish School of Arts and Crafts）就學期間（1949~1952）師從漢斯．韋格納（Hans J. Wegner）。同時也隨丹麥皇家藝術學院（The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts）講座教授 Kaare Klint 學習。另者他與建築師 Jørn Utzon ﹝雪梨歌劇院建築師﹞也跟學一陣子，除此之外，他還深受國際設計師如：美國查爾斯伊瑪斯夫婦（Charles and Ray Eames），包浩斯標記人物米斯范德羅（Ludwig Mies van der Rohe）及荷蘭激進派極簡主義里特維爾德（Gerrit Rietveld）等人的影響。
Poul Kjaerholm 設計主要以金屬休閒椅稱著，而 Wegner 的椅子幾乎全以實木為主，師生兩人在不同材料世界都各領風騷。PK 對於金屬椅子細部的工藝處理，歷經半世紀無人能出其右，因此贏得 A Master of Detail 的尊崇。
